There are many types of software a VJ may use in their work, traditional NLE production tools such as Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and Apple's Final Cut Pro is used to create content for VJ shows. Output hardware is for displaying the video signal, e.g. ![]() Effects hardware allows the adding of special effects to the video stream, e.g. a Video Mixer or a computer utilizing VJ software. Mixing hardware allows the combining of multiple streams of video e.g. Playback hardware plays back an existing video stream from disk or tape-based storage mediums, e.g. Source hardware generates a video picture that can be manipulated by the VJ, e.g. VJ hardware can be split into categories - 1. In both situations VJing is the manipulation or selection of visuals, the same way DJing is a selection and manipulation of audio. The term VJing became popular in its association with MTV's Video Jockey but its origins date back to the New York club scene of the 70s. This results in a live multimedia performance that can include music, actors, and dancers. VJing often takes place at events such as concerts, nightclubs, music festivals, and sometimes in combination with other performative arts. Characteristics of VJing are the creation or manipulation of imagery in realtime through technological mediation and for an audience, in synchronization to music. You can even draw your own shape from scratch.VJing (pronounced: VEE-JAY-ing) is a broad designation for real-time visual performance. Slice masks You can now apply a mask to one specific slice by using the new input masking. So you don't need to find that sweet spot twice. Triangles were just the beginning, young grasshopper Snapping Slices and points will jump into place when they get close enough. Draw any shape you want and then warp each individual point. Polygon slices (poly what?) This new way of video mapping is so innovative we even had to think of a name for it -) We’re calling them Poly Slices. You can now work on a complex mapping with the ease of mind that you can always go back in time, like Doc & Marty. Sometimes you need to fiddle the sliders until it’s pixel perfect. This is incredibly handy because video mapping can become quite complex and is not always an exact science. Undo (yes really) In the advanced output you can now undo (and redo) all your actions. Zoooooomin With stages becoming bigger and LED resolutions going up it’s now easier to get everything pixel perfect by zooming in to your slices as far you need to make the final adjustment. Projection mapping has gone from an artsy curiosity to a requirement in the toolbox of all VJ's. Projecting on DJ booths and cars and buildings, as well as pixel mapping giant stages like Ultra.
